Barefoot in the Rain

24 May

I approach life like it is a puzzle.  I expect all the pieces to fit together just so. In my mind, if I plan well enough, I can fit it all in.

But, life is not a puzzle of clean cut pieces at all. It is ever-changing.  It is unpredictable.

I had my morning planned out to the max. I was going to Body Pump, home to shower, grab breakfast and eat in the car, take mom to work, do some computer work at Starbucks, go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to look at food processors, buy make-up at the mall, get a book I have been wanting, stop by the grocery store, and make it home by 11 or 12 tops.

Welp, I did all of that. But did not manage to get home until about 2.

As I sat at Starbucks, while being irritated that I have to pay an extra .60 because I am lactose sensitive and have to order soy, the sky began to darken. What began as a beautiful day very quickly became dark with ominous looking clouds.  It was apparent that any minute now the sky was going to break open with rain.

As the rain began to pour, the thunder and lighting began to put on a show.  I do love thunder and lighting!

It took me much longer than I expected to get my work done on the internet, thus delaying my departure.

When I was finally ready to leave, it was still pouring.  I slip off my untimely worn leather sandals and ran to my car barefoot. (The nice guy working at Starbucks offered to put my backpack in a trash bag for me. So kind. I declined though. I told him I would just run fast.)

I then drove to the mall and ran through the rain again. It is shocking how cold a store feels when you are drenched with rain.  They had ONE copy of the book I wanted, and I found in a place other than where the clerk told me to look. It was on sale! ($11.99 instead of $15)

While the Christian bookstore is attached to the mall, it does not allow you to get into the mall.  So I put my purchase in my purse, took off my sandals again, and made a run for it. Once in the mall I walked as fast as I could to get my make-up (I had 10 punches on my card, so I got $10 off!)

By the time I was done in the mall, the rain had stopped. I walked casually to the car as though none of that crazy happened!

On the way out of the parking lot, Sun and Ski Sports caught my eye and I went there to look for cycling gloves. After riding three times without them, my hands were begging me to buy some already!  I thought maybe they would have what I was looking for. I got some well padded gloves and some shorts (which I returned).

Then I finally made my way to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I surveyed their food processor selection and just did not find what I am looking for. The search continues…

My shirt was finally drying, so I was not freezing anymore!

I made my way to the grocery store, skipping the carts.  Before I even hit the frozen food section, my arms were over flowing. I was dropping items, and awkwardly attempting to retrieve them without dropping anything else.  I eventually broke down to get a cart, but had to walk ALL the way back to the front of the store to do so.

But, I hit the jackpot!  Mangos were on sale! They had frozen pineapple and cherries! The coconut coffee creamer was on sale too!

Before Body Pump I had an Ezekial tortilla with SunButter and half a banana. After Body Pump I wanted vegetables, so I had leftover stir fry with roasted garbanzos and brown rice… the new breakfast of champions.

For lunch, I was wanting something a bit lighter.

I made a smoothie of the frozen fruit I had recently procured.

Equal parts frozen banana, pineapple, cherries, and blueberries were blended with 1/2 T ground flax seeds and 6 T non-dairy milk.

I topped that with a few spoonfuls of Easy Peezy Granola and unsweetened shredded coconut.

Some how eating that made me more hungry, so I made something with what I had on hand.

For the record, I suggest you make this… and soon.

Avocado Bean Dip

serves 1 hungry Danielle

1/4 of an avocado

3 T cooked pinto beans

1 T salsa

Those 3 simple ingredients when into the mini food processor, and out came a delicious dip.  No spices needed!  The salsa did all the spicing for me.  The beans even out the fattiness of the avocado with some protein. I dipped in with carrots sticks and homemade cheezy crackers.

This was good enough to eat straight off of a spoon.  I would know, because I ate the last two bites straight up. No cracker needed.

After Leila woke up from her nap, Michele and Leila came over to hang out.

It is really hard to get a picture of a 15 month old tot. That does not mean I did not try though.

My camera is too slow to take picture of little miss constantly-in-motion. Hence, why her parents let me use it, when they purchased their new super fast camera.

She did a lot of showing off for me today.  It amazes me that she changes literally every day.

Today she featured two syllable words, such as Da-ddy, Mo-mmy, Po-ppy, ba-by, ki-tty, Ni-na, and go-tcha. She does not say my name, Dani, yet, but she will.

She also, held up her pointer finger and waved it around to “let her light shine” as my Mom sang, “This Little Light of Mine.”
I took her to surprise my Mom, her Nan, when I went to get her from work.  Leila tottled around her office running through every open door she could find.

I had plans with a college friend for dinner tonight at BJ’s. I ordered the Gluten-Free flatbread pizza with tomato, cheese, artichoke hearts, and roasted garlic.  I was disappointed with how little garlic their was on the pizza. I was hoping for garlic seeping out of the pores the net day level of garlic. Not so much, but it was super yummy!

I devoured it all… yep, the whole thing.

On the way home, I broke off a square of the Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt bar that I bought at World Market… I could spend way too much money in there.

Though the rain poured, the day went on.  The sun came out. The clouds turned white. The water flowed away. Though my plans did not go as I intended, all was accomplished that could be accomplished.

I am blessed.
